In a night that shook the foundations of the local automotive industry, Lamborghini Manila unveiled what could possibly be the world’s fastest SUV. With the country’s movers and shakers in attendance in an exclusive by invitation-only event held at the Okada Manila, the 650-hp Urus SUV was publicly unleashed amid the thunderous applause from the high-profile audience.
In attendance during the highly charged event were Lamborghini Manila executives led by Robert Coyiuto Jr. PGA Cars chairman, Roberto Coyiuto 3rd, Lamborghini Manila president and chief executive officer, and Davide Sfrecola, Lamborghini area manager for Southeast Asia.
“The Lamborghini Urus is a model that’s born out of Lamborghini’s vision to continually defy boundaries and with it, the desire to create the world’s first super SUV. We are very proud to bring this groundbreaking car to the Philippines,” said Roberto Coyiuto 3rd.
“The Lamborghini Urus is a visionary approach to creating a Lamborghini around the concept of the most versatile car, the SUV. The Urus elevates the SUV to a level not previously possible, the Super Sport Utility Vehicle. It has become a game changer in the luxury arena in terms of performance, driving dynamics as well as unparalleled design, luxury and daily usability,” added Sfrecola, who also revealed that the design inspiration for the Urus was the Lamborghini Countach and the LM002.
With a 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbo engine, delivering 650 hp at 6,000 rpm, maximum 6,800 rpm, and 850 Nm of maximum torque already at 2,250 rpm, the Urus is the end result of years of research and development. “The Lamborghini DNA is written through it and the it has the best of what Lamborghini has to offer in terms of design and engineering,” said Sfrecola. With 162.7 hp-per-liter, the Urus claims one of the highest specific power outputs in its class and the best weight-to-power ratio at 3.38 kilogram-per-hp. It accelerates from 0-100 kph in 3.6 seconds, 0-200 kph in 12.8 seconds, and boasts a top speed of 305 kph.
The Urus has a cutting-edge, distinct and streamlined design with multiple souls: sporty, elegant and off-road. Its muscular surfaces make it appear strong and highly-athletic, while the mixed tires allow a luxury super sports car look. All the surfaces were designed with a clear attention to functionality. Lamborghini details and iconic shapes can be immediately recognized at first glance, such as the “Y” and the hexagon elements, the front bonnet with center peak and the cross lines on rear door. The extreme proportions and the single silhouette line make Urus a real Lamborghini. Furthermore, its proportions are unique since it is the lowest SUV in its class. Urus design took inspiration from the heritage of the LM002 in regard to the power dome showing the position of the engine and the significant diagonal lines, while the frameless doors recall the iconic Marcello Gandini line.
Italian craftsmanship
Truly, luxurious Italian craftsmanship meets state-of-the-art technology in the Lamborghini Urus interior. The aeronautic designed and the driver-oriented instrument concept with three TFT screens (each one for the instruments, infotainment and comfort functions, including virtual keyboard feature with hand-writing recognition) put the driver’s needs at the forefront and make the overall experience more comfortable and enjoyable. The dashboard architecture follows the “Y” theme inspired by iconic Lamborghini models. The interior can be customized to be more elegant or sporty, through the selection of different kinds of colors and materials, such as natural leather, Alcantara, wood, aluminum or carbon — with the option for further sophistication on select materials through contrast stitching or Q-citura. Urus features the largest range of options ever presented in a Lamborghini, with multiple souls converging to create a unique vehicle. Furthermore, Lamborghini Urus is the first five-seater super sports car.
The Urus Super SUV is built by a dedicated assembly line that integrates new production technologies to support workers in assembly and maintenance activities, one of these being the Manufacturing Execution System (MES) for which Lamborghini was awarded the Gold Winner title of the prestigious SAP Quality Awards in the Business Transformation category. This integrated production management system makes it possible to organize the quality of the product and the related process up to its maintenance.
The new Lamborghini Urus was also named MVP SUV of Robb Report’s Best of the Best 2018 awards. The American luxury-lifestyle magazine describes this super SUV as a “consummate crossover” with the combined elements of the Lamborghini Huracán Performante and Aventador S with its own innovative engineering.
