We all know that the digital age is here! But wait, a flying P-O-R-S-C-H-E? Yes, you read that right! Porsche, a German automobile manufacturer specializing in high-performance sports cars, SUVs and sedans, recently announced its mind blowing news of entering into a memorandum of understanding with the aircraft maker Boeing, “to explore the premium air mobility market and the extension of urban traffic into airspace.” Let’s all stop for a moment and imagine a FLYING PORSCHE shall we?
The electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) industry is definitely cooking up, with a lot of companies finding partners for what looks like could be a surprising boom industry — provided the significant technical and regulatory hurdles still standing in the way of viable commercial consumer air travel are overcome. Porsche is throwing its hat in the ring to work together on developing a concept for a “premium” eVTOL.

As stated by Detlev von Platen, Member of the Executive Board for Sales and Marketing at Porsche AG, “Porsche is looking to enhance its scope as a sports car manufacturer by becoming a leading brand for premium mobility. In the longer term, this could mean moving into the third dimension of travel,”
“We are combining the strengths of two leading global companies to address a potential key market segment of the future.”
Porsche, Boeing and Boeing subsidiary Aurora Flight Sciences are said to be developing a prototype for an electric flying car that would be able to take off and land vertically. The rendering that came with the announcement (shown above) looks something like a 911 that’s been re-imagined with wings and aircraft engines, and is landing on the roof of what’s likely Wayne Enterprises headquarters.
